The Geographic Accessibility to Health Services Training Workshop was held on 2-5 December 2019 in Port Vila, Vanuatu through the collaboration of the Ministry of Health of Vanuatu and the Health GeoLab Collaborative.
This training was conducted in alignment with the aim of the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Vanuatu to provide patients with equal treatment for equal medical need, irrespective of characteristics such as income, race, and place of residence. With this training, the MOH, for the first time in its history, was able to estimate the levels of physical accessibility and provide evidence on how Vanuatu could optimize its distribution of facilities, in order to achieve the goals outlined in the Vanuatu National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP).
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- Introduce the concepts and methods behind the use of GIS to measure physical accessibility to health services
- Introduce the participants to the use of AccessMod 5.0
- Practice the different analyses included in AccessMod using the data for Vanuatu
We would like to thank the MOH of Vanuatu for allowing us to share these materials.
